Administrative opening of the last lecture of the semester (CMU 15-445/645, Fall 2024).
Deadlines
- Project 4 is due Sunday; a TA session runs Saturday in room 5207 from 3–5 pm (
0:30). - Homework 6 was pushed one extra day, to Monday December 9th, the day after Project 4 (
0:30). - Hard cutoff for anything using late days: midnight, Monday December 16th — even though the 10 + 4 late-day budget could technically run longer, grades must be submitted so graduating students are not blocked (
1:06,3:00).
Other announcements
- J. Nash teaches 15-445/645 next semester; TA applications are open (
1:29). - Paid winter-break positions are available to clean up the BusTub source and Projects 3 and 4 (
1:51). - Course evaluations are read and acted on; honest criticism is requested over uniform fives (
2:12,2:35). - Office hours: today at 3:30; the following Wednesday (no class) plus extra hours Thursday at 3:00, the day before the exam; TAs finish after Saturday's session except one PhD student TA on Wednesday December 11th (
3:31,4:02).
Final exam mechanics
- Everyone in the class takes it; two rooms were assigned — report to Baker Hall 8:51 first and get routed from there (
4:28,5:15). - A final study guide and a practice exam with solutions are posted on Piazza (
4:54). - Bring: CMU ID, pencil and eraser, a calculator (phone is fine), and one double-sided sheet of handwritten notes — no shrunken slide printouts; iPad handwriting printed out is acceptable (
5:34). - One question will require reading a small amount of BusTub code — conceptual, not "what does this line do", and no API memorization (
5:59,6:54). It is explicitly a hedge against students who outsourced the projects to ChatGPT (6:39).
